BRUTE

2007 / 2025, single-channel HD video, black and white, stereo sound, 25 minutes

BRUTE stages the demolition and reconstruction of a sidewalk as both labor and psychic allegory. Concrete is hammered apart, reduced to rubble, and poured back into place—a cycle that mirrors the psyche’s compulsion to break down, find release, and begin again. A ritual of entropy takes shape in a patterned performance of disorder and renewal, where destruction and repair endlessly repeat, binding the body and the built world to the same relentless rhythm of collapse and reconstruction.Â
